Cinderella is a classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen that has been told and retold for centuries. Camila Cabello, the mega-talented singer, is set to take on the role of Cinderella in her lead role debut in a new film adaptation from Amazon Prime Video and Sony Pictures. She’ll step into a legend where a kind and good young woman with an evil stepmother and vile stepsisters meets a fairy godmother and falls in love with a handsome prince. It’s a story that has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide and still resonates today. The first look at the movie is out, and it’s stunning.
Another Cinderella Film Adaptation
The story has been adapted many times – from books to film. The film versions have helped cement the tale’s place in pop culture lore. Disney’s animated tale from 1950 helped certify the company’s animation prowess, featuring hand-drawn art based on live-action references and is responsible for a lot of that pop culture love. (The multiple Disney adaptations have arguably been the ones people are most familiar with, too. Although WB’s A Cinderella Story with Hillary Duff and Chad Michael Murray ranks high in the cultural lexicon. This author’s favorite is the 1997 version starring Brandy, Whitney Houston, and Paolo Montalban.)
Camila Cabello’s Journey to Cinderella
Cabello rose to fame as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony, which formed on the 2012 season of The X Factor. She left Fifth Harmony in 2016 and embarked on a successful solo career. Her debut album, Camila, was released in 2018 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Some of her mega-hit songs and ultra-radio played songs include Havana, Consequences, Senorita, Liar, and Shameless.
The first look for Amazon Prime’s Cinderella
The first look trailer for the Amazon film was just released, giving us a glimpse at what we can expect from Cabello’s take on the character.
Watch it for yourself here:
The 30-second clip introduces us to Ella, who seems like she’s a fashion designer. Cabello is at ease in front of the camera and exudes charm. We also meet her fairy godparent – Billy Porter, aka Fab G. Even though the clip is short, it features cute, sarcastic humor that brings the miles.
As expected, since this is a musical, Cabello’s Ella sings in the movie, and we heard a snippet of one of the original songs. Legendary songstress Idina Menzel is also in the film, but we didn’t see her at first look. The costumes teased within this first look are gorgeous – from the dresses in the ballroom to Porter’s garb.
You can watch Cinderella with Camila Cabello, Billy Porter, and Nicholas Galitzine.
